Philippi The Bank of Philippi $5
Grade:
G/VG
(1850s). When this note was printed and issued, Philippi was part of Virginia. It later became a part of West Virginia and was the site of a skirmish on June 3, 1861. This encouraged the North to call for a drive on Richmond that ended with the Union defeat at First Bull Run in July. This note has seen extensive wear but still has decent paper. There are a number of edge tears and several miscellaneous pencil marks.
