CR 2 $50 Virginia Treasury Note, Richmond

August 13, 1861. This early note is excessively rare in this condition, and it is a beauty. Ceres and Commerce in the central vignette with a large rendition of the state seal at the left and a portrait of John Tyler on the right. This is the only known note that used a vignette of Tyler and it's the most difficult to obtain. There are probably less than 20 examples known. Tyler was the Vice President under Harrison and became President upon his death. He had also been the Governor of Virginia and a U.S. Senator from Virginia.
