The second small size double denomination printed! Originally from Lot 5697A of the Albert A. Grinnell sale of November 30, 1946, which contained both half-sheets. Since that time, four notes have not re-surfaced, so only eight pieces have been recorded in the Bart census, compiled since 1981. The centering on this piece is absolutely exceptional, as is every other conceivable attribute. Over the years, we’ve seen or sold most (if not all) of the eight available notes and firmly believe that this is the finest. All of the pieces have been considered to be Choice Crisp Uncirculated since their first offering in 1946. All have a soft center bend, not a fold or crease. Although the $10/$1 double denomination seems to get more attention, that makes no sense. There have been far fewer offerings of the $10/$5 mistake during the past decade. When will another come up for auction? When will another come up for auction equal to this piece? Probably never. The only piece to sell within the past few years brought about $42,000, a price likely to be eclipsed by this superior specimen. As with most great items, waiting will only cost money and likely deliver an inferior example.
