Fr. 649a $20 1902DB
Grade:
PCGS Fine 12
A rarity of the highest caliber, the Fr. 649a was possible for banks chartered for a five week period, between March 24, 1915 and June 30, 1915. The dates are historically significant: the earlier date is when Tehee-Burke assumed office and the later date is when the Aldrich-Vreeland Act expired and all banks switched to using 1902 Plainbacks. Collecting National Bank notes, by Friedberg numbers, remains in its infancy with a swelling audience of far-sighted appreciative collectors. As the number of collectors increases, expect the prices to equal those of "type" notes.
