This is obviously one of Iowa's earliest National Banks, chartered in 1863, to operate in Clinton County. It was re-chartered to #2733 in 1882 when the original charter expired. This note is signed by James P. Gage, who was the president from 1867 to 1880, and R.N. Rand, Cashier. This note is new to the census being only the fourth example reported, and apparently the finest of the four. It faces up like a VF 20 but minor edge splits and marks let me call it a bit less. The centering is excellent and so is the color.
