Ionia, First NB, 275
Fr. 394 $5 Original
Grade:
VF, average
This bank, chartered in 1864, was one of the state's earliest. It liquidated in 1897 after issuing First Charters and a few $50 and $100 Brownbacks. With only three notes reported on such an early bank one cannot be too picky. This example is apparently the finest known of the three reported although it's not XF as reported. One of the others listed is Good/VG and the other is Good. This note has three horizontal folds and a plethora of closed pinholes. It has an excellent appearance overall. From the Louis Van Belkum Collection.
