Lot #1167 - $5 1981-A G Chicago

Error Notes > Federal Reserve Notes

$5 1981-A G Chicago
Grade: Ch. AU
R-9 error, according to the rarity index by Bart. No error variety ranks higher! That should say something about the scarcity of this mistake. The back of this note was printed over the wiping paper used to clean ink off of the plates. The extra fragment of paper (which is unusually large) consists of wiper paper, not currency stock! The paper is too coarse and too white compared with that intended to print paper money. It's amazing that the wiper paper fell into the press; it's a miracle that it was recovered with the note. A similar note shows in the Bart book with a value of $4,500, but the book is five years old.
Current Bid: $ 3,650.00

Estimate: ($ 6,000.00 - $ 12,000.00)
