District seal printed with brown ink. This note (and the others in this sale) was plucked from circulation by a waitress on the east coast in the early 1990s. Our error consultant confirms that this is the only known star note with the brown ink on the district seal and the district numbers. This mistake is thought to be the result of green ink (intended for the serial numbers) being mixed into the black ink reservoir. We ve seen a few of the regular issues before, but never heard even a rumor of a star note. Only one error collector can own this; there are a couple of tiny staple holes.
