Wildly important to the serial number collectors who only dream about serial #1 stars, much less any in uncirculated condition. I believe that the only other serial #1 star that we have ever sold was part of the John Whitney Walter Collection, and that graded only VF/XF. You can be sure that if a finer one was ever presented to him, he would have bought that too. Census data shows only two $20 serial #1 stars since 1928, only three CU serial #1 stars since 1928 and only 13 total serial #1 stars. This is unique as a CU example of a $20 serial #1 star. The most recent serial #1 star offered was on a fixed price list, by a serial #1 specialist. The piece was offered in the Fall of 2007 for $45,000, and the centering did not approach this example. This specimen not only boasts terrific centering, but is free of the heavy, unattractive ink smears which often plague serial #1 notes. Graded Ch. CU 63 PQ by RCGS.
