Lot #1731 - Santa Fe, Territory of New Mexico, First NB, W1750

National Bank Notes > New Mexico

Santa Fe, Territory of New Mexico, First NB, W1750
Fr. 593 $5 1902DB
Grade: Fine +
The Territory of New Mexico was formed in 1850 and did not become the 47th state until 1912. Fifty-five National Banks issued notes while New Mexico was a Territory. Twenty-eight of the banks have notes reported, with a total of 117 notes in 1992. The First National Bank of Santa Fe is not only from the first bank chartered in the Territory, but also from the state capital. There have been 23 Territorial notes reported on this bank, many of which are First Charters. It is relatively apparent that this note was folded in half and carried for a while. The left half is just ever so slightly darker than the right. No doubt put away for a rainy day, or possibly the need for a rainy day in that part of the country. A pleasing overall appearance with strong, clear pen signatures. There are currently three $5 Territorial Blue Seals known on this bank, as well as two $10s and one $20. From the Bernalillo Collection.
Current Bid: $ 3,400.00

Estimate: ($ 5,000.00 - $ 10,000.00)
