Fr. 95b $10 1863
Grade: PCGS Ch. Abt. New 58 PPQ     PCGS
This note represents the first $10 legal Tender design used for our federal currency, but it has the Second Obligation located in the back center of the note. It bore the portrait of Lincoln on the face well before his assassination in 1865. Later, our government developed a policy not to picture living people on either currency or coins. The change of obligation was that the new issue was acceptable for payment of all loans made by the government. This First Obligation was limited and was exchangeable for U.S. 6% Government bonds, redeemable at the pleasure of the government. The March 1863 date with the new back design. A gorgeous example of this rare type that most would think is UNC. A great value compared to notes just a hair better.
