March 1, 1837. This is a lovely $10 Kirtland Safety Society bearing the signatures of S. Riguan and J. Smith, Jr. as president and cashier respectively. The name Ovid Tinney is written very tiny on the face. These notes represent the beginning of Mormon currency. The bank never received a state charter, so many were converted to anti-banking notes.
