Lot #2183 - Shelbyville, First NB, M2128

Only Known $5 Brownback Sheet From Illinois

National Bank Notes > Illinois

Shelbyville, First NB, M2128
Fr. 474 $5 1882BB Uncut Sheet
Grade: XF/AU
Most of the notes known on this bank are 1902 $5 Plainbacks, but there are two other $5 Brownbacks in low grade, as recorded from this Shelby County community. This bank was chartered during the First Charter period in 1873, and these are the earliest notes recorded. The First Charters were signed by H.M. Scarborough, President and John W. Powers, Cashier. This sheet was probably saved as a remembrance of the renewal of its original 20 year old charter, Oct. 1, 1873 - Sept. 2, 1893, is my best guess. The sheet is unique for the state. The layout is beautiful and the colors are vivid. The sheet has been folded between the notes, and there are also some vertical folds.
Current Bid: $ 21,500.00
