This is the ultimate $50 Type 2. It is a serial #1 note and it’s from a 14000 charter bank, meaning it was chartered in 1934, just before the National Bank Note issuing period ended. The current census shows only four notes reported, including two other $50 Type 2s and a Type 2 $100. This note is not UNC because of a light crease along one end of this otherwise pristine example. This is only the fourth #1 Type 2 $50 to appear and it is truly a special note. The birthday greetings letter (enclosed with the lot) that was given with this note, from William J. Loach, Sr. to his son, William J. Loach, Jr. reads, "Dear Bill, It was good to talk with you the other evening and to know that you and Marvel are well. The snow is melting fast and we are getting back to normal here, we had 24" on the lake up home. I am alright. Am enclosing 50 dollar bill will you please give Marvel 25 dollars for her birthday which is next month. You may wish to keep this bill since I signed it in 1934. I do not know of any in circulation as they have probably all been called in by the Govt. Many happy returns of your Birthday. Lots of Love, Dad."
