Lot #1467 - Driggs, First NB, P10278

National Bank Notes > Idaho

Driggs, First NB, P10278
Fr. 602 $5 1902ND
Grade: VF +
As the story goes, the patriarch of the Driggs family was asked by the Mormon church to go forth and develop a new settlement, which they did in Teton County on the on the eastern edge of Idaho. They named it Driggs after their family. The bank was chartered in 1912 and closed in 1929. There are seven notes reported (all large, obviously), but only one has ever been sold publicly. Some of the Driggs family moved to Arizona and became major players in the Phoenix area until they were intertwined in the savings & loan debacle caused by the Tax Reform Act of 1986 that ended the family's reign in Western finance. The stamped signatures are visible but not bold on this note.
