Fr. 360 $5 1890
Grade:
Superb Gem CU
I have always been enamored with the rarest of the signature combinations and seals with the various series. Over the last 30 years or so I had always recognized the Fr. 97, Fr. 109, Fr. 297, Fr. 313 and Fr. 373 as obvious rarities that stood out, but more recently with the work of Martin Gengerke it has become painfully obvious that the Fr. 360 $5 1890 Rosecrans-Nebeker large brown seal Treasury note ranks right up there with the best of them. Listed here is the FINEST KNOWN. There was an AU listed by Kosoff in 1951 but no one has seen it to verify the grade one way or another.
We sold this note in March 2001 for a tidy sum of $54,350. Today it is hard to say what the new market levels will say about this note.
No matter what characteristics you like about a note, you will like this one because it has them all. From the Dr. Cookson Collection.
