We all know this is Las Vegas, New Mexico Territory, not Nevada, but it's always interesting as we see it at a glance. The town was first settled in 1835 and was claimed by the United States in 1846 during the Mexican-American War. Its first railroad stop came in 1880, causing a boom in the town and eventually turning it into a major southwest U.S. city. By the turn of the century, the town was full of modern conveniences, including electric street cars.
