Newly Discovered St. Louis Brown Back
National Bank Notes > Michigan
St. Louis, First NB, 3239
Fr. 467 $5 1882BB
Grade:
PMG VG 10
The bank was only in business from 1884 to 1897 and issued only $5 Brown Backs. Just 2,659 sheets were printed. By 1910 there was only $400 left on the books. This note will also surprise many collectors not knowing that this misplaced town (in their minds) exists. After the sale of the DeGood note in 2007 this well used but problem free Brown Back turned up and it's the second note known on this charter. The DeGood note was the first discovered and it was previously described as, "A #1 $5 Brown Back with excellent pen signatures. A couple of tiny splits have been expertly restored." That note brought $39,100 in that 2007 sale. This example was pen signed by John Triger, Vice President and A.B. Darragh, Cashier. From The Dr. Wallace Lee Collection.
