National Bank Notes > Pennsylvania

Penbrook, NB, E9344
Fr. 618 $10 1902DB
Grade: Fine
This note was previously described as, "A nice looking Fine with good margins all around and bold brown pen signatures. A very rare Dauphin County bank near Harrisburg, liquidated in 1920 after only 11 years of operation. Kelly lists just two notes known. The Gengerke sales records shows only one public sale in 60 years - a $10 Date Back in identical condition was sold by Hickman & Oakes in 1981. That note was described as having a half inch tear at the bottom of the center fold. This is probably that note, as a strong glass reveals a superbly repaired split at that position (although a 3 mm margin split left of it has curiously not been touched). Regardless of whether this is the 1981 note or its twin, this is a very rare opportunity for the advanced Pennsylvania specialist". This earlier description is still accurate. From R.M. Smythe, 7/02.
