January 1, 1854. Durand 1247. This is the smallest of three sizes of scrip that was issued by Davis & Sons, purveyors of Perry Davis' Vegetable Painkillers, and other remedies sold to the public in the late 1800's. Reportedly these were part of the medicine labels, and the reason most are seen with mounting remnants on back, such as this piece.
