Lot #2195 - Washington, First NB, 284

Finest Known #1 Lazy Deuce Ex-Grinnell

National Bank Notes > Ohio

Washington, First NB, 284
Fr. 387 $2 Original
Grade: AU
In my opinion, this note is the finest known of all #1 Lazy Deuces, based on the catalog records and research available. The only note listed as UNC was the #1 Trenton and it was nice, but not UNC. This note is from the earlier of two banks in Fayette County to issue Lazy Deuces, and both were saved. This bank was chartered earliest of the two and was in business from 1864 to 1878. The other bank opened in 1872 and closed in 1875. Both have other notes known. This bank saved the #1 ace and two VG or lower deuces are known as well. The trim on this note is slightly uneven, but the signatures are lovely. The description paper from the Grinnell Sale is included in the lot as well.
