The Coin Notes or Treasury Notes have always been a very important and exciting series for collectors. The uniformity of the various denomination designs lend an air of continuity to the set where it's the general on the face design, the ornate backs like this one or the simplified backs of the 1891 issue. These note are rare and the ornate back designs are exceptional. This John Marshall note is among the finest extant. In fact, only a single example has been graded higher by PMG at 67 EPQ. This 65 EPQ is one of four graded that way. This note came from the Peter Gamble Collection that sold in January 2008 and realized $37,375 and I expect no less when sold here.
