Military Medal for Exemplary Conduct, 32mm, 13.9g. Scarce silver medal created on 2 October 1863 during the reign of King Luiz I, and awarded to Portuguese military personnel who served throughout their career with exemplary moral and disciplinary conduct, with a proven spirit of loyalty, and no disciplinary record. The medal came in three classes: gold for 30 years of service; silver for 15 years of service; and bronze for 6 years of service. This silver medal is the first issue of this medal, which has had several design changes since Portugal became a republic in 1910. The offered example has had the loop removed.
