World Paper Money > German South West Africa

Messe I. Pomonahugel
NL 10 Pfennig ND (ca. 1915)
Grade: VG
Uniface. After the colony's complete occupation by the South African Union in 1915, English currency was introduced. Reichsmark notes in circulation up to that point, as well as Seitz notes, were declared invalid. Due to the completely unprepared currency conversion, however, there was a lack of change and small change everywhere. Large companies were provided the opportunity to issue emergency money at 10, 25, 50 Pf, 1 Mark, 2 Mark and 3 Mark. Soon after, however, small and very small businesses also issued emergency paper money. Even tokens and casino tokens circulated as currency. Listed without a price in any condition in the German South West Africa catalog by Zborowska. Various signs of circulation. The first I have ever seen. Sold as is; no returns.
Current Bid: $ 462.00

Estimate: ($ 700.00 - $ 1,000.00)
