Curacaosche Bank
A51 25 Centen 1892
Grade: PMG VF 30     PMG
Rare government issue made during the Latin American and worldwide economic crisis of the early 1890s. This crisis caused economies to contract sharply and coin to be hoarded and disappear from circulation. Curacao's central bank, the Curacaosche Bank, ordered some emergency coin replacement notes from the US, instead of Holland, to alleviate the shortage. When the crisis abated, notes were recalled and even though face value was relatively low, with the small size of the colony these notes had generally not travelled far. This crisis shook up the world and broke many banks though it did not hit the US until 1893. PMG terms this "VF 30 previously mounted Mathis Verkooijen Collection"; the only example on the report. See the following lot for the next denomination.
