Isla de Malvinas/Falkland Islands
S102r 2 Pesos ND (1824-29)
Grade: Ch. XF 45 NET
Remainder; uniface, without serial number. Standard Catalog plate note. We believe this is the first time, at least in decades, that any types from the Malvinas have been publicly offered. Robert Bauman stated he has seen six pieces for the country, four in private collections and another in a museum. The Malvinas has been a disputed area for centuries; it was first "discovered" in 1592. In much later years, in 1982 the Malvinas were prominently in the news because Argentine forces invaded and attempted to reclaim this area as theirs; later that year, those forces surrendered to the British. PMG terms this "Ch. XF 45 NET missing corner, rust"; the only graded note for the ENTIRE COUNTRY! Completely unpriced in any condition in the Standard Catalog. Incredible opportunity, particularly pertinent for "one per country" enthusiasts.
