124a 500 Pesos ND (1949)

Highest denomination of series; Legazpi. This note is an anomaly, a mystery, an enigma; you select the adjective! Shortly after the auction started, two top experts contacted me within a few hours of each other contending this piece has the later Guevara signature because the high serial number #58673 far exceeds the officially recorded number made of 20,000 for the 500 Pesos denomination, with and without the CENTRAL BANK overprint. Further, the two pieces for the CENTRAL BANK overprint currently known to exist are below serial number 20,000. After multiple examinations, this note clearly has the Hernandez signature at right. So, it is anyone's guess as to why this note with a much higher serial number that defies the official records has the earlier signature variety. PMG terms this "Ch. VF 35"; the higher of the only two on the population report. An incredible opportunity.
