Fr. 94 $10 1862 Incomplete Partial Face Printing
Grade:
PCGS Fine 15 Apparent
This error, an incomplete partial face printing, is of epic historic proportions and worthy of the most advanced collection due to the mind-boggling nature of this early error. 1857 is a time which predates Federal currency! The entire black printing, including the vignette of Art as an allegory, the central eagle, the portrait of slain President Lincoln, the engraved signatures and borders are missing. Likewise, the note lacks the red serial number and seal. Only one similar missing printing exists (on a $500 1882 Gold Certificate) and that was advertised at $250,000 nearly 23 years ago. I don't really know whether this was supposed to be the first face plate printing but I would have thought the block ink would have printed first. A rare item whether an error or a special early trial of some sort. I recall nothing else similar in 50 years. PCGS notes: edge damage.
