Examining the Schwartz-Lindquist guide to small size paper money, we see that the BEP didn't print serial #8888888 from the 1928 series through the 1977 series. In fact, a total of only 13 serial #88888888s were printed in all series of Small Head $50 FRNs from 1928 to 1993. On Big Head $50 bills, we note the following number of serial #88888888 $50s printed: Series 1996 - 11, Series 2001 - none, Series 2004 - 1 (this note), 2004A - none, 2006 - none, and 2009 - 1.
