We start the auction off with a bang with the special serial number section! This spectacular duo represents the extraordinary opportunity of obtaining the only known $5 small size Red Seal rollover pair. Examining all $5 Legal Tender series, from 1928 to 1963, we find that no other $5 Legal Tender rollover pairs having ever been auctioned. Rare doesn't beging to describe this pair. Here are the facts: In the $5 1928 - 1928-F Legal Tender series, only blocks A-A through I-A plus *-A were printed. For the 1953 to 1953-C series only blocks A-A, B-A, C-A and *-A were printed. The A-A and *-A blocks were printed in the 1963 series. So we know with certainty that a total of sixteen serial #00000001 $5 small Red Seals were printed. With various government officials likely receiving some of them, their rarity is unquestioned. There are only two serial #1s known: the $5 1928-A LT #D00000001A and the $5 1928-C LT #H00000001A. When researching the number of solid serial numbered $5 1928 - 1928-F Legal Tenders we find only these five solid serial numbers having been sold publically: #B22222222A, #B66666666A, #E99999999A, #F77777777A, #G99999999A. Therefore we are confident that this is indeed, the only known $5 Red Seal Rollover pair: #G99999999A and #H00000001A. This pair was last auctioned by Lyn Knight Currency Auctions in October 2004, at the landmark John Whitney Walter auction, Lot #353 where the buyer paid $32,200 to acquire it. That was 14 years ago and we believe it will bring significantly more tonight. The #G99999999A has been graded PMG 55 Ch. AU and the #H00000001A is in a PMG 45 Ch. XF holder. Both notes look a grade or two higher and both are irreplaceable.
