Minneapolis, NB of Commerce, 3206
Fr. 467 $5 1882BB
Grade:
Good
This is only the third note to appear on this bank, which is one of the rarest banks in Minneapolis. The bank only printed Brown Backs and Red Seals, having operated from 1884 through 1908. To date, only a $100 Red Seal, which hasn't been seen since a 1997 auction, along with a Serial #1 $5 Brown Back were the only two notes recorded until the appearance of this example. The Serial #1 note has been auctioned twice in the past eight years, and both times selling for just a bit over $19,000 each time. A remarkable find, albeit heavily circulated, that still has legible signatures, this $5 should give some hope to those wanting to acquire the title, but not able to compete for the Serial #1 note, or the $100 Red Seal were it to appear at auction.
