Rare Hillsborough Issue North Carolina Colonial
Colonial Currency > North Carolina
NC-146 $1 August 21, 1775
Grade:
VG/Fine
One of the scarcest series in post-1750 colonial currency, known as the "Hillsborough issue." At lower left is a vignette of Hermes with the motto "12 United Colonies." This was due to the fact that Georgia had not yet sent a representative to the Continental Congress. While this note has plenty of splits and tears, tape repair, missing edge pieces, etc. it should be noted that many of the Newman notes from this issue looked similar or worse that this piece and graded Apparent Fine. The $1 note from the Newman collection graded PCGS Apparent Fine 12 and sold for $1,762.50.
