Lot #20072 - T-4 $50 May 4, 1861

Iconic T-4 Montgomery Issue

Confederate Notes

T-4 $50 May 4, 1861
Grade: PCGS VF 35     PCGS
Montgomery notes are the stuff of legend and lore as concerns Confederate paper money. They are instantly recognizable with bold green ink colors throughout and detailed slave vignette at center. Although PCGS notes "Repairs" they are not particularly intrusive and do little to hinder the overall aesthetic beauty wielded by this piece of CSA history. Both signatures of Alexander B. Clitherall and E.C. Elmore remain strong. Issued July 1, 1861 by B.C. Pressley, Assistant Treasurer at Charleston, SC. The central verso also shows the penned signature of Henry Clark of Charleston, SC. Fully framed and with superb visual appeal. Approximately 180 T-4 notes are known and they always stride into five-figure territory. Tonight's offering should not prove any different.
