Goodland is a town in northwestern Kansas near the Colorado border and it resides in Sherman County, which was named for General William T. Sherman. The name Goodland was chosen from Goodland, Indiana by an early land promoter. The First National Bank was chartered in December 1901. This bank later absorbed the Farmers National Bank and liquidated/converted in 1934 to the First National Bank in Goodland, #14163. A rare western Kansas bank note that is one of only six large notes reported and two are $20 Brown Backs. Likely this one was mis-graded '55' as no serial number was listed in the records. I can only find one large public offering except for the Dale Lyon note. Great paper, well centered with pen signatures of Fred Hurst, Vice President and C.J. Shimeal, Cashier.
