A rare location with only four large notes recorded and a decade since the last offering. Lovely pen signatures of James A. Smith, President and E.E. Hasemyer, Cashier. Braidwood began as a boom town after the discovery of large coal deposits in 1864. The post office was established in 1867, with the town s incorporation to follow quickly, in 1873. Braidwood is named for James Braidwood, an early resident and superintendent of the town s first mine shafts.
