A scarce Boston bank that issued First Charters and Brown Backs only before leaving the banking scene late in 1899. A paltry dozen examples are known of all types. PMG spots a tear which is confined to the broad left margin. The couple of other $5 First Charters that have sold in recent years were of clearly inferior quality to this note and they still cleared the thousand dollar hurdle with relative ease.
