November 1, 1862. Bishop Hill is known as - USA Utopia on the Prairie. Erik Jansson was the leader of the Jasonists who inhabited the town. All residents were required to become members of the Jasonist religion, established by Jansson after breaking from the Lutheran church and moving to America.
