Finest Known Jeffries-Spinner Deuce
National Bank Notes > New Hampshire
Hillsborough, First NB, 1688
Fr. 388 $2 Original
Grade:
VF
A rarity of the highest magnitude among Friedberg number collectors and New Hampshire National Bank Note collectors. This is one of only two known Jeffries-Spinner signature combination Lazy Deuces known from this charter. These bank officers served as Treasury officials together from October 5, 1867 to March 15, 1869. I can find four banks, including: Lake, Illinois, Springfield, MO, Mankata, MN and Hillsborough, NH to have surviving notes known that should be Jeffries-Spinner, with likely seven known examples. The nearest example is a VF 25 which realized $25,000 plus last year. While it is listed in the census as XF, with the horizontal and vertical folds I am confident a nice VF is a better representation of the grade. Neither end has margins but the quality is clear. The note has lovely pen signatures of Stephen Kenrick, President and J.C. Campbell, Cashier.
