As stated on the notes, Caja de Conversion issues were backed by United States funds either in coined gold or letters of exchange. The exchange rate was four Colones per US Dollar. Initial denomination of series; allegorical woman standing with model airplane. Narrow margin at top on face; all four margins on back are wide. An original from an area in considerable demand. This piece hammered for $610 in our World Sale 9 over three years ago; the lone example we have offered since.
