Ming Dynasty Note
AA10 l Kuan ca. 1368-1399
Grade: VG/Fine
Famed large size Ming Dynasty note on mulberry bark paper; the earliest collectible paper money. Two vermilion seals on face and one on back. Ten strings of coins, each representing 100 Cash, at center. One account about the Ming notes is that a bundle was found underneath a statue of Buddha during the Boxer Rebellion of 1900; this is referred to with the information included with this note. Frayed margins with a few small pieces missing; few areas of internal weakness. The printing is quite strong on this note. Pleasing example. Finally, here is a story from the owner of this note about how it passed from generation to generation: I always remember the love of coin collecting my grandfather had, so much so that he even had his own coin shop in Illinois. When he passed away, there was a lot of his collection to go through and I know that my dad, being the oldest son of the oldest son of the oldest son, had the task to go through my grandpa's collection and estate. My dad, being a collector of precious things, understood the value of my grandpa's coin collection and the one thing my dad did keep through all the sorting was this Ming note. It was when my father passed away that I soon came to take the Kuan in the sorting of his things. I respect the value that my dad and my grandpa had in their collections and I hope that this note can find its way to someone who will value its history and preciousness in adding to their own collections.
