Lot #926 - Davenport, NB, 848

National Bank Notes > Iowa

Davenport, NB, 848
Fr. 397 $5 Original #1
Grade: VF/XF
This is one of the earliest of all known Iowa National Banks, if not from the entire county. This bank was chartered in 1865 and this note was signed by George L. Davenport, son of the town's founder, George Davenport. This is an extremely rare bank that has only one other example known and it's nothing close to the lovely serial #1, the top note from the first sheet, obviously saved by the bank or family. The cashier was B.B. Woodward who became president later in 1876. The Brownback known came from the Davenport bank hoard in 1995. It's the only other example known or seen.
Current Bid: $ 13,500.00
