VA-138 $6 Handwritten Dates May 4, 1778
Grade:
PCGS Very Fine 30
Both L. Wood and James Wray signed the higher denomination examples of this RARE issue. Almost all of the notes from this series have printed dates. The handwritten dates were printed only 1,000 per denomination and this is number 220 for the $6 denomination. It is a moderately circulated example that looks half a grade higher. It has absolutely no problems to mention and it is easily one of the nicest examples available. A check of auction records shows the Midnight Ride collection had a stunning AU example with this being the next nicest note your cataloger can ever recall having seen. Newman lists this series at $2,000 in Very Fine with no higher grade given and it would not surprise us to see that mark tested by this piece as it will likely be a long time before another becomes available.
