National Bank Notes > Colorado

Wellington, First NB, 7793
Fr. 1801-1 $10 1929T1
Grade: VF/XF
This prohibitively rare bank was totally missing from the massive Mayer Collection. It s no wonder since the bank closed in 1933 having issued less than 7,000 sheets of large size and exactly 700 sheets of small notes. Wellington is located just off Interstate 25 on the way to Wyoming. It was a tiny farming community of 533 souls when this note was issued and was your last chance for gas until you hit Cheyenne. This bank was organized in 1905, the same year that the town was incorporated. The town's remoteness and low population goes a long way to explain the poor survival rate of notes from this bank. Very incomplete data points to the existence of two large notes, and the Kelly census list serial numbers on four small size examples, in which this note ties one other as the finest. Track and Price can find no public sales of a note from this location over the last four decades. Truly a great Colorado rarity worthy of a serious bid.
Current Bid: $ 4,250.00

Estimate: ($ 4,000.00 - $ 8,000.00)
