One of the greatest Wyoming notes to be offered in years. Wyoming Red Seals are rare in their own right, so to be able to offer such a rare bank in this type is a dream come true. This institution, the only national bank in the county, was in business from 1904 until it went into receivership in 1924. Even being the county seat, hardly a thousand people lived here in 1920, and only a few hundred more souls were scattered in the rest of the county. It is no wonder a mere four notes have survived. Even Peter Huntoon, who collected the state for years, failed to own a note on the bank. There has been only two auction appearances from here in the last 40 years. The most recent was in April 2009 when a newly discovered Plain Back in Very Fine was auctioned for $43,125. Unfortunately, this Red Seal has seen a bit more use, although the reds are bold and the fine pen signatures are undiminished. To be accurate, I ll mention the few margin problems and a couple of light spots, but on a rarity like this they will have no influence on the final result. I have no doubt that if the grade of this Red Seal matched the Blue Seal, we would see a new Wyoming record. Who knows, given the importance of this Red Seal, we still may.
