It has been years since a note from this rare Suffolk County bank has made it to public auction. Organized in 1923, this bank issued less than 5,000 sheets of 1902 Plain Backs before the 1929 Series notes came out. The large size outstanding in 1935 was a paltry $540. The current census stands at 5 large and 4 small notes, virtually unchanged since this note was first offered in 2004. Since that auction appearance, no additional large examples have found their way to the block or to the census. Great two color signatures of John Kennedy Ewing, Jr., President and W. D. Mott, Cashier help to make up for the tight trim. Some ink and age spots have also been covered up.
