Fr. 1220 $1,000 1922
Grade: PMG XF 40 EPQ     PMG
This was the last issue for $1,000 Gold Certificates in the large size note era, and just 80,000 notes were printed. According to the Gengerke census there are 30 serial numbers recorded, and of those, seven are permanently impounded in museums. The best listed are a CU and four AU notes. The best PMG grade before this was a "45". Only about 30 examples of this number are known, and only two are reported to be uncirculated; one in a government collection and one that has not been seen since 1984. Currently PMG has only graded 10 examples of this series with most being Fine and VF, with only two being better and neither are UNC. Personally I feel this beautiful example of a rare high denomination is better than listed but I have yet to view it out of the holder. This beauty is from the Siesta Collection.
