Matching Bank And Treasury Serial Numbers
National Bank Notes > Iowa
Burlington, Merchants NB, M1744
Fr. 670 $50 1902DB
Grade:
PMG Fine 25
A very scarce type for this Burlington bank, with only two $50 Date Backs known. This note also carries a very special distinction as has matching bank and Treasury serial numbers (341/A341). This is interesting because it tells us that this bank was the first to order $50 Date Backs. It can be considered the earliest issued $50 Date Back since there are no lower serials known on this charter. The note is a choice VF with excellent stamped signatures. The likelihood of finding "special" notes like this are still out there but they remain few and far between. Certainly a note like this belongs in the Higgins Museum or in a special spot in any Iowan's collection. Not as expensive as if it had been the #1 Red Seal on Paintsville, Kentucky - the first Red Seal printed!
