Improper ink mixture. Only a couple of these are known in high grade, which dispels any concern about authenticity, clearly a fact the folks at PMG carefully considered before giving this piece their blessing. Because the Gold Certificates were printed contemporaneously with the National Bank Notes and Federal Reserve Bank Notes it appears as though residual brown ink was left in the reservoir holding the overprint ink and an improper mixture occurred blending the intended yellow-gold ink with leftover brown ink. A specialist in small size paper money had one listed on eBay with a starting price of almost $10k,000. The market will determine what tonight's example brings.
