$5/$10 1934-D J Kansas City J-A Double Denomination
Grade: PCGS Gem New 65 PPQ     PCGS
Quoting from the industry standard guidebook, "United States Paper Money Errors" by Dr. Fredrick J. Bart, he describes the double denomination as follows: "The double denomination reigns supreme among paper money errors. No other mistake conjures the romance, mystique and fascination of the double denomination. In fact across the entire spectrum of paper money, very few notes can equal the allure of the two value oddity. More publicity and lines of catalog descriptions are showered upon the double denomination than any other misprint. The double denomination is aptly regarded as the 'King of Errors'. It remains the most pursued and coveted paper money mistake." The first edition of Dr. Bart's book in 1994 speculated "If additional double denominations do not develop, the upward spiral in value in response to increasing demand for this spectacular oddity will almost surely continue." Prices have advanced five to ten fold since his words were published in 1994. The example in our CPMX 2012 Billy Key Collection sale realized $36,800, of course it was graded '67'. This is a lovely '65' and the price will certainly make it tempting.
