Nara Visa, Territory of New Mexico, First NB, W8663
Fr. 618 $10 1902DB
Grade: VF/XF
It's been more than 12 years since any large Nara Visa has been offered, let alone a Red Seal. A great name, rare town, top condition and picture perfect pen signatures of Louis Baca, President and Ruth Burns, who was one of two women who signed as cashier. Notes like this are worth whatever they cost. Only 780 total sheets of Territorials were issued on this bank. According to the family, the bank closed in the 1940s, as the only people that stopped robbed the bank. Roman Latimer met Mr. de Baca, who was a former Lt. Governor, in Denver years ago and he learned invaluable information about eastern New Mexico banking in the early days. Jack Everson purchased this note from Morris Lowenstern, beating Roman Latimer to it. Later, Roman found that Lowenstern still had a small size note on the bank and he got that, so they were both happy. From the Bernalillo Collection.
